Please briefly describe your organization.
The Jewel Box Series at Northeastern Illinois University, now in its 15th season, brings local, national and international artists to NEIU for performances in the 175 seat Recital Hall or 425 seat Auditorium in the Steinberg Fine Arts Center. The Jewel Box Series is recognized for quality, diversity, innovation and collaboration among the campus and community. The Series features renowned performers, superior acoustics and live broadcasts of many of the concerts over WFMT 98.7FM.
What do you want the community to know about you and your organization?
The Jewel Box Series at Northwestern offer great Performing Arts experiences in the neighborhood at an affordable price:
How long has your business/organization impacted the community and conversely how has the community impacted your organization?
Because we are a commuter school the community is our audience. Most of our attendees only travel a few miles from their home to experience our performances. As the artistic director, the community has helped me shape the Jewel Box Series into a series that features many different types of music, from classical to bluegrass and jazz, and they make the performers feel welcome and appreciated.
What’s your favorite part about the community?
I feel the people of this community are very involved and want to see arts groups, businesses, and schools thrive and are very willing to help in any way they can.
