Reminder: Remove Snow & Ice From Your Sidewalks

Don't Make Your Customers Trudge Through the Snow! Sidewalk Snow and Ice Removal Reminder

Owners and licensees of businesses or other commercial property in Chicago are required, under the City’s Municipal Code, to remove snow and ice from the sidewalks abutting their property (Sections 4-4-310 and 10-8-180). Business owners are encouraged to clear a path at least five feet in width. During periods of heavy snowfall, clear sidewalks are essential in helping customers and pedestrians get around safely. It is also important to remember that a sidewalk free of snow and ice is a provision of your business license (Sections 4-4-310 and 4-4-320). Thank you.

Thank You!

Thank you to our sponsors, donors and supporters at this year's End of Year Chamber Party at Marie's Pizza & Liquors!
We had an awesome turn-out or more than 100 business and community leaders to the uber-festive Marie's Pizza at 4127 W. Lawrence Avenue. Hostess Nadine Karavidas treated revelers to delicious (and unending!) pizza, pasta, antipasta, salads, apps and desserts. The Jeannie Tanner Trio charmed and partiers won raffle prizes and silent auction items. The evening raised nearly $2,500 for North River Commission's education program. You also donated $1,000 in new toys and clothes to Lawrence Hall Youth Services (pic below with Andrew Levin, Chamber Co-Chair, Nancy Merco, Lawrence Hall Youth Services, Liz Griffiths DeChant, Chamber Director). Thank you! Click here for a list of donors and supporters.

THANK YOU for making the evening a wonderful success!

This event was generously sponsored by Albany Bank & Trust Company, N.A., Bass Realty Chicago, LLC and Albany Park Auto Clinic.

News You Need

New Garbage Pick-Up Schedule:
The second phase of Chicago's grid garbage collection system will begin on July 30, 2012 in areas of Chicago west of the North Branch of the Chicago River and north of Addison Street. The implementation of the system will change collection from non-linear ward geography to a grid system creating routes bordered by main streets and natural boundaries. The result will be more efficient garbage collection and crew productivity and millions in cost savings.

Thanks to 39th Ward Alderman Laurino for this information and this helpful map of scheduled garbage pick ups (click for link).

Albany Park & Mayfair Ripe for Business Expansion!

Despite the turbulent economy, the time is ripe for business expansion in Albany Park and Mayfair, concluded a study presented by nationally renowned retail analyst LISC MetroEdge to nearly 100 neighborhood groups, business owners and community leaders at a Lawrence Avenue Development Corporation meeting at Albany Bank & Trust Co., N.A.

The density of Albany Park is the secret to our economic power. Residents - from Foster Ave south to Montrose Ave and Cicero Ave east to the Chicago River - spend more than $300 million per square mile annually on retail. That's triple the spending per square mile of Wilmette in the northern suburbs. In fact, only nine of Chicago's 77 communities boast more buying-power per square miles, among them Wicker Park, Bucktown, Lakeview and Lincoln Park... More in news.
